Hail Storm..

During my week off for Obon, one of those days Eric and I went to the pool for a little swim. We had a good time and swam a little longer then usual. When we got out of the pool and were leaving I looked out side and saw it was raining. It was a noisy type of rain..... but then I checked again... it was hail!
The pool is pretty high elevation wise so after running to the car getting pelted by hail the whole way and pulling it around so Eric could just hop in, I decided to head for lower ground hoping the car would not take such a a beating. But the further we got down the side of MT Fuji the harder the hail fell. The sound was deafening in the car and I was looking for a a place with cover to pull the car but with there was nothing close and when we did get to a place where there was some cover 1000 other people had the same idea.

Obon
Obon is the holiday where in Japan we welcome our dead relatives into the house and some other stuff that I stopped trying to figure out. Really it means we go to the grave yard and honor our dead ancestors. No problem there.
It also means we get a week off work. A week is a long time and we really didn't have much planed so mostly Eric and I went to the pool allot.
We had a really great BBQ and allot of Eric Satomi and my friends came. It was really great unfortunately no pics. Next time. But I want to give a big shout out to The Meat Guy The Meat Guy! for hooking me up at the last minute with some nice fat steaks and sausages. They were the real hit of the party!
Eric and I did some stuff day we went to my friend Brent's in-laws house.
First we went to the stream outside the yard and Eric, Ryoma and Brent caught crayfish. Eric loves that kinda stuff and Brent was looking at what he thought might be a potential dinner.

I have been running my server out of my house for almost 2 years now. Its a nice source of heat in the winter and a good source of noise all year round.
I was getting annoyed with it and fedora so in a effort to learn some thing new I set up a old box I found laying around at work a dual pentium3 750 with 4 18 gig SCSI 10000 RPM discs and 1 gig of RAM. I think that should be sufficient for the little to no amount of traffic that my site receives.
Setting up the Solaris box was not as easy as say most flavors of Linux make it on you.... but I managed to get it done with a little help from a co-worker. After that came setting up Apache MySQL and PHP. MySQL 5 was a package and went in with no problems at all. I compiled from source the other 2 and if you do not know how I feel about compiling .... I am not a big fan of it... for 2 reasons one dependencies can quickly turn into a nightmare and two when it comes time to update due to a security flaw or any other problem you can be in a hurt locker all over again and need to go through resolving your dependencies and sorting your config line again.
Been a while.....

Its been a while since I posted anything on my site. Easy now! I have been busy really busy as a matter a fact. I A.) migrated all my stuff to 2 new (new to me) servers in a data center. B.) I have been working pretty hard and studying Japanese. and C.) I made 4 new story's for you to read, and there are some more to come soon.
Migration Migration is about my move from Fedora Core to Sun Solaris 10 and CentOS 4 for web/mail services.
Kodomo Sumo Kodomo Sumo is about Eric doing some sumo wrestling pretty funny with some pictures.
Hail Storm HailStorm A freak hail storm hit Gotemba a few weeks ago and Eric and I were right in the middle of it.
Obonn is another week long holiday where we celebrate the return of the dead spirits or something like that. I did not do to much celebrating but Eric and I ... and even Satomi did some fun stuff. Check it out.
