A little quiet please!

I run a FTP server out of my house that doubles as my desktop. It is about a 4 year old P4 2.4 GHZ.
So when the processor fan started making noise I went looking for a new one.... 4 years in computer parts is like 20 in car parts and 80 in human years....... it is pretty high in dog years too.
Needless to say I could not easily find a replacement. Easily is a relative term here in Japan, where nothing is easy. Yes I could have found one.... I just didn't feel like ordering it on line from Kazakhstan or hunting through junk piles in Akihabara. The 3 places that I go for parts didn't have one so I started looking at other options.
Jason a fellow former Marine, who I met recently offered me a processor fan that he had extra and it looked as if it would fit. After a night of no sleep due to work and that fan grinding away I got home early enough to take my PC apart and see if it would fit. Unfortunately it was no good. Just a couple of millimeters to long on one side.
This was the alternative. I cut the fan that I had on my system out with some with some wire clippers. After that I removed the new fan from the new heat-sink and checked to see if it would fit over my old heat sink that was firmly mounted on the motherboard.
How not to ask for help.....

So you say its your BIRTHDAY?!
Its my BIRTHDAY TOO!
Last week January 25th was my 35th Birthday. How did I celebrate it. By having a quick Thai dinner with one of my friends....... followed by all night of working on a 7 year old Solaris Server. The night was not a complete loss....At about 430 I finished, made my way to Roppongi, and Proceeded to party up the remainder of the night till about 0730. When I went to work signed in and slept on the couch till it everyone else arrived. Get up then work for a bit and go home. Not how I want to spend my next or any further birthdays but not the worst one by any means. Even if I did turn 35.
But this time of year allot of my friends have birthdays too. I have been meaning to send mail to each of them individually/call but instead I thought I would just shout out to them here (come on at least I didn't use your ages);
Jan 19 Al and John
Jan 20 Mitsuko
Jan 21 Atsuko
Jan 25 ME & Yoko!
To everyone who acknowledged my birthday like Patrick and Jason for calling, Mary h Yoko, Atsuko for sending me mails, Shinobu and Nittin for taking me to lunch and of course Bawdo for saying Happy Birthday to me on the Tlug IRC! Thanks!

Check it out.
Dad I know you will love these.
